All of our instruments are professionally set up and adjusted in our own workshops to play easily and sound their best. Our workshops are able to provide on site adjustment, service, and warranty to the instruments we sell and rent. We provide the best customer service in the business, which is why most of our business comes from referrals by satisfied private teachers and their students.

High Quality Rental Instruments:

Our rental instruments are set up to the same specifications as our instruments for sale. This ensures the instruments play easily for the advancing student, and are easy to tune and adjust. Rental outfits include a good case, wood bow, high quality strings, shoulder rest, and rosin. Rent credit is established which can be applied towards the purchase of the rental instrument or an upgrade.

Consignment and Trade-in
Instruments purchased from Hammond Ashley Violins maintain a trade in value guarantee, or can be purchased back or consigned. Instruments not purchased from Hammond Ashley Violins may be considered for trade or purchase. Please call to set up an appointment for an evaluation.

Approval
Instruments can be compared in our stores, and taken home on an approval period to show to a private teacher without commitment to purchase.

Appraisal
Insurance replacement valuations are provided by appointment.

Our History

Hammond Ashley Violins was founded in Seattle, Washington in 1964. At that time, the shop was small and catered to the close-knit, local string community of which Hammond Ashley himself was an integral part. Over the past forty years, the shop has grown to become one of the largest string specialists on the West Coast, extending the services and expertise of our staff to musicians all over the globe. The success of the shop has continued with the opening of a new location in San Diego in July of 2004. And at the end of January, 2007, the Seattle store found a new home in Issaquah, just East of Seattle.

Amidst such growth and change, the original philosophy and commitment to service held by our founder has remained intact and fundamental to our staff and their work. Hammond's founding philosophy is evident in all aspects of our shop; especially our staff members, who have devoted much time and effort to become knowledgeable, dedicated to their craft, and proud to provide a myriad of specialized services to fellow string musicians. While visiting either of our shops, you will find a large selection of violins, violas, cellos, basses, their bows, and accessories. Every instrument and bow has been hand-picked, setup, and then tested for playability and sound by us. If you are looking to purchase an instrument or bow, we invite you to play through our selection. When you find what you are looking for, we suggest taking your prospect out on approval. This allows you to evaluate the instrument in your home, and to obtain the opinion of colleagues or your private instructor.
