Instructor BiographiesDr. Kelley Johnson, Violin and Viola
Dr. Kelley Marie Johnson hails from Utah and the Wasatch mountains. She was the concertmaster of the Utah All-State orchestra and since in her community and university orchestras. In addition she has held contracts with several symphonies including the Flagstaff Symphony, Quad Cities Symphony, and Orchestra Iowa. Her studies have taken her south to Arizona (NAU- BM/BME), east to Texas (UTA, MM and a graduate performance certificate), north to Iowa where she earned her Doctorate (DMA) at the University of Iowa with Dr. Scott Conklin , and north to Michigan to teach at the Interlochen Arts Festival for the past several summers before she relocated to the Seattle area. Growing up in a family of musicians has given Kelley the unique opportunity of playing in an ensemble since she began at age six. Still today, chamber music continues to be one of her greatest passions. Kelley is an active supporter of classical music for the 21st century. She premiers and records works for contemporary composers and has been invited to plays theses works at conferences and recitals across the US. In addition to performing on the violin, Kelley enjoys sharing experiences and providing the best opportunities for her students. She actively pursues and conducts research into successful pedagogical techniques and is a certified teacher both nationally with MTNA and in two states where she had led award winning orchestras, chamber ensembles, and a strong performance studio. Dr. Johnson is currently accepting traditional violin and viola private students, or students who are interested in being a member of a string chamber ensemble.
