(North Bend, WA – June 29, 2010) – “Extraordinary musicians combined with the Cascade Mountain backdrop will put this performance on par with those on America’s greatest outdoor stages – Tanglewood, Wolf Trap, the Aspen Music Festival,” says concert violinist Lenore Vardi as she releases names of the virtuosos who will appear with her when the Vardi Chamber Players’ debut at the first Snoqualmie Valley Festival of Music August 7 & 8 at North Bend’s Mountain Meadows Farm.
Ms. Vardi, the chamber players’ musical director and first violinist, will perform with Seattle Symphony pianist Kimberly Russ; French horn player Barbara Oldham of Quintet of the Americas; University of British Columbia Viola Professor David Harding of Trio Verlaine and The American String Project; and renowned virtuoso cellist Jeffery Solow the current Violoncello Society president.
Each evening at 7, the chamber players will cap off an afternoon of diverse music on the outdoor stage with works by Mozart, Brahms and Dohnanyi. “We’ve planned world-class musicians performing three of the greatest compositions from chamber music literature in one of the most glorious settings imaginable – to make it a truly memorable evening."
Since Ms. Vardi’s 1982 solo debut in New York’s Merkin Hall, she has received international acclaim for her artistry. The New York Post’s Richard Kimball hailed her as a soloist of “amazing elegance and musicianship... a natural performer.” She is a founding member of the Laurentian String Quartet and the Westchester Chamber Players.
Before moving to North Bend in 2007, Ms. Vardi performed and recorded frequently with stellar performers ranging from Itzhak Perlman and Placido Domingo to Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. In collaboration with her husband, renowned viola virtuoso Emanuel Vardi, she gives master classes on the violin and viola. Both Vardis are also visual artists who frequently choose musicians and musical instruments as the focus of their work and are represented at galleries in Duvall and Issaquah and across the country.
With the help of Snoqualmie Valley Arts (SVA), which organized this summer’s music festival, Ms. Vardi plans to continue performing with the Chamber Players throughout the region in the coming year. “My goal is to establish a core group of first class musicians, local to the Pacific Northwest, while bringing in an occasional guest artist or two. I plan to bring the audience into my world, so to speak, using a more informal approach, by performing themed concerts and including a short lecture on the music.”
Carrying on in the Vardi tradition, “I also plan to have us play in some unusual venues with the hope of demystifying classical music and showing people that it’s lively, emotional and fun. My goal is to add to the richness of the artistic offerings here and to create family-friendly events and new chamber music fans.”
